Embark on a budget-friendly journey from Salalah to the enchanting city of Hawf in Yemen. This day trip offers a unique blend of breathtaking landscapes, cultural interactions, and unforgettable experiences.
Itinerary Highlights
7:50 AM - Departure from Salalah: Our adventure begins as we set off from Salalah, heading towards the Yemen border. Enjoy the scenic drive along the coast, with stunning beach views and zigzagging mountain roads. Along the way, keep an eye out for the charming camels and cows that often graze by the roadside.
Hawf - First Stop: Just 30 minutes past the Yemen border, we arrive in Hawf. Our first photo opportunity is a spectacular vantage point overlooking the city and its lush surroundings.
Second Stop - Yemeni Flag Viewpoint: We make a stop by the roadside and climb a small mountain, crowned with a proud Yemeni flag. This spot offers a panoramic view of Hawf, perfect for an Instagram post from Yemen.
Third Stop - Hawf Beach: As we continue our journey through Hawf, we pause to admire the city against the backdrop of the stunning coastline. Fancy a swim? The beaches are as pristine as it gets. You might even see some locals going for a swim or fishing.
Fourth Stop - Coastal Panorama: Our next stop is a hidden gem, just 15 minutes from the city. This elevated location offers the best views, where you can see the entire ocean and the city from afar. It's a popular spot for locals to relax and fish, making it an ideal place to soak in the beauty of the area.
Lunch and Cultural Experience: After our photo stops, we head back to the city for a delicious lunch. Here, you'll have the chance to speak with friendly Yemenis and learn about their rich culture and traditions.
Savor Traditional Yemeni Cuisine: Enjoy a delightful meal at a local restaurant, sampling authentic Yemeni dishes. Indulge in traditional flavors with options like Mandi (fragrant rice with tender meat) and the amazing Yemeni bread. Vegetarian and vegan options are available, though cross-contamination can always occur. The culinary experience is sure to be a highlight of your trip.
Return Journey: After the restaurant experience, we begin our return journey to Salalah. We make two additional stops along the way for more photo opportunities – also on the Oman side.

Day 1 - Salalah to Yemen Border via Hawf/Al Jhiadah City:
Our journey begins as we depart from Salalah and head towards the Yemen border, passing through the picturesque town of Hawf and arriving at Al Jhiadah City. Enjoy the scenic drive with views of the coastline and mountainous terrain.
Day 2 - Al Jhiadah to Wadi Daw'an:
Travel from Al Jhiadah to the breathtaking Wadi Daw'an, renowned for its stunning desert landscapes and traditional mud-brick architecture. We will spend the night at the Heed Al Jazeel Hotel, nestled in this serene and historic valley.
Day 3 - Wadi Daw'an to Sayun via Seef/Ghilah/Shebam:
Our journey continues as we explore the picturesque villages of Seef and Ghilah before arriving in Shebam, famously known as the "Manhattan of the Desert" for its towering mud-brick skyscrapers. We will then head to Sayun for an overnight stay.
Day 4 - Sayun: Museum Visit, Tarim, and Market Exploration:
Discover the rich history of Sayun with a visit to its local museum. We will then explore the vibrant town of Tarim, known for its historic palaces and mosques. Enjoy wandering through the bustling local market, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere and engaging with friendly locals. We will spend the night in Sayun.
Day 5 - Sayun to Salalah:
After a hearty breakfast, we embark on our journey back to Salalah, taking with us memories of Yemen's captivating landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
